This was one of my first few attempts to do the cleaner, detailed painting style BECAUSE I have no control over my hands sometimes. They shake, and when nervously attempting details, it will shake a little more.
I enjoy using watercolour as there is a certain transient quality about it, when confronting the final product.. but also in the application process. It is also exciting to see how each stroke really 'stands up' for itself. It also means that every 'mistake' leaves its mark, looking occasionally apologetic but daring in appearance. This in a way brings the artist through a process of acceptance. The medium is also very interactive with the texture of the paper, the amount of water, and also with itself.
I think it is these qualities about it that differentiates it from the other paintmediums. By using this medium.. i learn to appreciate my mistakes.. and shakes.
WABI SABI ftw!
Anyway, for this piece, I took close reference from the ukiyo-e woodblock prints, using the watercolour medium. It was really to practice my detail work (or lack thereof), but also to really test out my interest in the Japanese art- clean, precise, and heavy on detail- style.
Still unsure if I should just stick to visual appreciation of it..
